Free planning tool for picture-book authors

Build a 32-page picture-book storyboard.

Type a story beat or art note into every page, check the page-turn reveals, then print the finished map or save it as a PDF. Nothing you type is submitted to MyBookIllustrator.

How to use the storyboard

  1. Start with a final, proofread manuscript.
  2. Reserve pages for the title, copyright, dedication, or author note before filling every page with story.
  3. Place one important story beat on each page or facing-page spread.
  4. Use page turns to conceal surprises, location changes, and emotional reveals.
  5. Keep art notes brief: describe what the illustrator cannot learn from the text.
  6. Read the mapped book aloud, then remove repeated or slow beats.
Your text stays in this browser tabThis planning tool has no submit button and does not send the manuscript anywhere. Print or save your work before closing or refreshing the page, because the notes are not stored.

Why the template starts and ends with single pages

In a left-to-right printed book, odd-numbered pages appear on the right and even-numbered pages appear on the left. Page 1 opens alone on the right. Pages 2 and 3 form the first complete facing spread, and that pattern continues through pages 30 and 31. Page 32 closes alone on the left.

The cover is separate from this 32-page interior. For more detail about front matter, story pages, current KDP minimums, and color-print options, read the children’s book page-count guide.
