Pricing, revisions, AI, rights, and publishing.
Here are the practical details about what the package includes, how revisions work, what rights you receive, and what happens before publishing.
What exactly is included in the $200 package?
One complete custom book with client-supplied final proofread text: custom front-cover design and the final paperback cover file, a manuscript-fit interior page plan with the cover separate, one trim size, one paperback edition, one approved visual direction, artist-directed AI-assisted visuals, revisions through final approval within scope, print-ready paperback files, an ebook file when appropriate, and KDP listing support. Thirty-two pages is a common planning point, not a fixed limit; the final print count and illustration coverage are confirmed after manuscript review.
What receives a separate quote?
Writing a manuscript from scratch, deep developmental editing, extensive proofreading, a page plan or illustration load outside the agreed scope, multiple languages, additional trim sizes or editions, major concept changes after approval, technically complex layouts, and traditional hand-created illustration are available through a separate quote.
How many revisions are included?
Revisions are included through final approval while the project remains inside the approved concept and agreed scope. Text corrections, image refinements, and layout changes are revisions. A new manuscript, a new visual direction, a major page-count increase, a new language, or another edition is a scope change.
What does the Amazon Listing Guarantee* cover?
For a compliant title and a client KDP account in good standing, the guarantee covers no-charge correction and resubmission of correctable cover and interior production-file issues until the title is accepted and live.
The client must own or have permission to publish every manuscript, image, trademark, name, and other submitted item. The client controls the KDP account; never send a KDP password, tax information, bank information, or account credentials.
Amazon controls content, metadata, rights, identity and account status, policy compliance, acceptance, distribution, suppression, and continued availability. The guarantee does not cover later client changes, policy changes after delivery, account suspension, rights disputes, prohibited content, or material outside the agreed project.
Do you use AI?
Yes. The $200 package uses an artist-directed, AI-assisted workflow because it makes a complete custom book possible at this price. Toby chooses the direction, selects and rejects material, edits and coordinates the artwork, designs the pages and typography, checks consistency, and prepares the publishing files. The process is disclosed openly and accurately during KDP setup when disclosure is required.
Can I request a completely non-AI book?
Yes. Traditional / non-AI illustration is available by custom quote. It has a different labor level, timeline, and rights structure than the $200 AI-assisted package.
What rights do I receive?
Clients receive broad commercial publishing permission for the final approved delivered files. Human-created layout, editing, design, modifications, and production work are licensed or transferred as stated in the project agreement. AI-generated elements may not qualify for exclusive copyright protection in every jurisdiction.
Do I need a finished manuscript?
For the $200 package, yes: the text must be final and proofread before layout begins. Basic text placement and obvious corrections can be handled, but writing, rewriting, developmental editing, and substantial proofreading are separate work. The free picture-book manuscript checklist can help you prepare it.
Can you help with a book already in progress?
Yes. Share the existing PDF, manuscript, images, sketches, or KDP production notice. A book checkup or KDP file repair can build on what is already working.
I am new to self-publishing. Can you handle the technical steps?
Yes. You do not need to know trim sizes, bleed and print-file formats, or KDP production settings before contacting Toby. He explains the choices, prepares the agreed book files, and helps with the practical KDP production steps. You keep control of your KDP account and never share your password, tax information, or banking information.
What size should my picture book be?
There is no single universal picture-book size. The best trim depends on the story, artwork, binding, page count, printer, and budget. The visual picture-book dimensions guide compares square, portrait, and landscape choices, explains trim, bleed, safe areas, and spreads, and shows current KDP and IngramSpark considerations.
How does payment work?
After the direction, scope, and expectations are confirmed in writing, a fixed $100 deposit reserves production time for the standard package. The remaining $100 is due at final approval before final production files are released.
If a standard-package client cancels before final print-ready files are prepared, the $100 deposit is returned. Once the client has approved the final proof in writing, paid the full $200, and the final print-ready files have been prepared or delivered, the approved work is final, subject to applicable law. Larger and traditional projects use a separate written quote and PayPal invoice.
How long will the book take?
The schedule depends on page count, visual complexity, current workload, and how quickly approvals are returned. A production schedule is confirmed in writing before the deposit is requested.
